Mask Up North Minneapolis Project

The COVID-19 pandemic has magnified systemic inequities that already existed in historically underserved communities, including the Black community within North Minneapolis. These inequities have resulted in higher rates of infection, COVID-19 related deaths, and severe consequences in Black individuals. Motivated to intervene and to provide tools that could strengthen the community against the virus, Broadway Family Medicine, African American Leadership Forum (AALF), and their partners focused efforts on flattening the COVID-19 curve in North Minneapolis.

As new information emerged about the positive impact public masking had against the spread of COVID-19, the Mask Up North Minneapolis Project was born. Our mission is to keep serving the healthy and vibrant North Minneapolis community. By increasing public mask usage to a critical 80%, North Minneapolis  can work together to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus and keep the community thriving.  Mask Up’s goals are to distribute 10,000 free face masks – mostly reusable cloth masks, to increase awareness through social media and community partners, and to develop educational materials regarding COVID-19 and masking.
